Let me tell ya, I had 164 photos to choose from -- it was hard. Some of them obviously were not good photos, poor lighting and such, but still...... I think I need an intervention. She is going to be the MOST photographed child in the universe and have a HUGE complex by the time she is three. As you can tell, I am also a sucker for golden light shining on her hair. And I think that in many of the photos, this obsession of mine made for not good portrait photography. What do you think? I think I NEED a good flash. You professionals (and non-professionals) out there, please tell me what I need to do -- I love the light on her hair, but I don't like the harshness on her face. I would also love input on which photo you think is the best.Sunday, November 8, 2009

7 Your Thoughts:
I really like #3!
I like #3, also.
#3 for me too!
Wendy,
No, no, no!! Natural light = good, flash = bad! I love number three, that is how you need to set up, back to the sun so you get hair light and even light on the face. Then it is just a matter of metering so that you expose it properly. Manual metering = good, automatic = bad! ;)
I know nothing about photography ... you might try Wendy Tevlin.
Having a child with red hair I can appreciate the 'colorfulness' of all the pictures. I'm partial to #4 -- her eyes reflect 'joy'.
Happy Monday.
What you really need Wendy, after some thought, is a lens shade, so that you can position her with her back to the sun, and you can shoot into the sun without getting the sun flare.
I like #3 of Winona and of Walter's photos.
