No Bull

The borrowed bull went home this weekend. Actually I think he may have been headed for the sale yard instead of home.....at least that is what I heard. Shhh.....don't tell the bull. He thinks he is headed home to his girls. He has come to visit our cows in the fall for the past three years. Contrary to his menacing features, he is a nice bull, pretty gentle and compliant. I hope he gets a reprieve and we get to see him again next fall.

You see, besides the episodic periods of frenzied activity when he is getting all his girls "settled", the bull is not essential. And once a bull reaches the ripe old age of say 4 or 5, he is often sent packing (to the packing plant) because the chances of him injuring himself (or certain parts of himself) greatly increases the older he gets. And once a bull is unable to perform his job.......well, he is dispensable. Shhh......... don't tell him.......it might hurt his feelings.

The life of a bull is really pretty boring ....... salivate, ruminate, inseminate (well, he doesn't seem to think that is very boring).......eating, sitting, drooling, licking, scratching, eating some more. What a boring life.

A fine example of how bored the bull is.

"Whoa baby! Are you looking for me?"
"Not today, big boy."
